17 Months Old!

Banana Bean is 17 months old today, and all she wants to do is go go go!

She loves clementine oranges!

We had another bit of a challenging month, between my stomach plague for a week, and then Anna cutting THREE molars for a week. Holy hell. While you people were posting all of your cutesy Valentine's Day pictures, I spent my day week getting screamed at. Seriously, that was one pissed off little kid. Thankfully she is back to her happy self, but teething is no joke!!

Giving an experimental poke to her Valentine's Day play dough

Coloring on the floor is for amateurs.

The cutest thing that Anna has mastered this month is being able to identify her ears, eyes, nose, mouth, hair, and head. I've even been able to get her to point to her tongue and tummy, brilliant genius baby!!

Digging through Mommy's purse is one of her favorite past-times. And yes, I gift wrapped her tummy.

She steals my headbands and tries to put them on herself, the little princess!!

She has been babbling a lot again recently. Mama, Dada, Daw (dog), and Bah (ball) seem to be the only really consistent words still, but she has surprised me by saying "shew" (shoes) and "sheez" (cheese). I've only heard those a couple of times though so I don't know if they count as real words. Her babbling has evolved though and it really does sound like she's trying to have conversations with us. I pretend like I understand her and always respond back, but I'm excited for when we can have REAL conversations together!

Picnic with Jake and Susan, our neighbors.

Silly girl!

Anna's current favorites are Elmo, her pink flower shoes that she got for Christmas, strawberries, The Very Hungry Caterpillar, and helping Mommy sweep. I finally gave Bean her very own munchkin-sized Swiffer so she would stop wrestling the broom out of my hands! She also LOVES the self-portrait option on my phone - as soon as she sees my phone out, she crawls over into my lap and jumps up and down waiting for me to take our picture. It's beyond adorable but it really does make it difficult sometimes to get a good picture of Anna doing anything except sitting in my lap, haha.

I've been asked how breastfeeding and cloth diapering are going. I am pretty positive that she will be weaned soon - it's gotten pretty painful recently now that I'm pregnant again, and although it makes me sad, I count myself lucky that we've made it this far without any real problems. She only nurses before her nap (unless Stevo puts her down) and bedtime, so I'm hoping the weaning process will be pretty quick and painless. Cloth diapering is still I've said before, I don't stress myself out with it - if it makes my life easier to switch for a day, I don't even think twice about using disposables. I also use a disposable at night since she sleeps so long. But otherwise, we still use cloth, and I am happy that we have an infant stash all ready to go for the new baby! FuzziBunz and BumGenius are my favorites out of all of our brands, and I think I will stick to those if/when I need to add some more pocket diapers to our collection.

I found that laptop at a consignment sale and it's been the best $5 I've spent in a while!

In other kiddo-related news, Steve and I are finally taking our very first trip away from Banana Bean. She will be staying with her beloved Poppy and SuSu, and we are going to visit friends. I know we are going to miss her but I am also looking forward to it. I'm hoping that Stevo and I can squeeze in a few trips together before the new baby comes, and this quick trip is a good warm-up to those plans!

Playing with Zoey

Well, I think that's about it for this month. Can you believe that in just one more month, Anna will be a year and a half old???

Apparently she is brave enough for the ball pit if her friends are in there with her!!

She looooves that slide!

Sweet Sixteen

I hit the 16 week mark today for Baby #2 and overall I'm feeling pretty good! Honestly, Anna keeps me running so much during the day that I tend to forget I'm pregnant...I just don't have much time to think about it! I am not planning to do a weekly update on this pregnancy, but I have found myself really enjoying getting to go back and read details from Anna's pregnancy so I will try to get at least a few notes down for this one too.

This pregnancy has already been infinitely easier than Anna's pregnancy. I've had a few nauseous days, some infrequent vomiting...but none of the debilitating sickness that I had with Anna. I was really dreading getting pregnant again because when I was pregnant with Anna, I spent the majority of the pregnancy just lying on the couch trying not to die, and any movement at all sent me running to the bathroom. I had no idea how I was going to go through that again and take care of a toddler, so I am very very thankful that I seem to have dodged that bullet this time around. I have been pretty tired though, and I try to take naps when Anna does, and I very much need to put my feet up at the end of the day and relax.

I have been craving fruit like nobody's business. You should see the inside of our fridge on any given grocery day...almost every single one of our Pyrex storage dishes is taken up with watermelon, cantaloupe, strawberries, blueberries, blackberries...if Publix sells it, it's in my fridge. And believe me, I go through it!! Oatmeal has also been particularly appetizing this time around.

The hormones/emotional mood swings have also been MUCH more prevalent than with Anna. Seriously, the dumbest stuff makes me tear up. Luckily they don't seem to last long but it still makes me feel a little crazy.

I keep having thoughts that this baby is a boy, but I'm not completely convinced like I was with Anna. The Chinese gender chart says boy. But I always get a heartbeat in the 140's or 150's on my Doppler, so that old wives' tale hints that it's a girl. All of the other old wives' tales have me split on boy or girl too, so I guess we really will have to wait until March to find out for sure! We are going to be excited either way - I would love for Anna to have a sister so close in age, but I know a boy would be SO much fun!!

The official doctor-declared due date is August 7th, but the ultrasounds have been pretty consistently dating me a week behind that, which would be August 13th. So...basically at some point in August I will be having a baby.

Due to a minor subchorionic hemorrhage (which is a blood clot in one of the layers of the uterus), and also owing to the fact that it's apparently harder to get a Doppler reading early on if you've had a previous c-section, I've had several ultrasounds so far. Here are some of the better pictures but I'm hoping we get some more good ones at our big ultrasound in March!

6 week ultrasound - look how teeny tiny they start out!!

See his/her leg sticking up? This is the 11 week ultrasound.

Happy Happy Joy Joy

It's been a while since I did my last "Things That Are Currently Making Me Happy" post and I figured I was about due for another! Here we go!

Hearing the birds chirp in the morning. I miss them in the winter and nothing gets me craving Spring faster than hearing their cheerful little chirps!

My freshly brewed coffee break in the morning, and the fact that Anna usually happily plays on her own while I enjoy it. And of course my coffee always looks like that, doesn't yours? haha

Anna's summer wardrobe, that I have had a lot of fun accumulating. She now has some of the most adorable little dresses and rompers - now we just need her to get a teeny bit bigger and the weather to get a teeny bit warmer!

Plotting out our first official garden. We have absolutely no idea what we're doing but we're trying to learn as quickly as we can to get this thing up and running. It's fun to hope that by the summer we'll have a bunch of fresh, yummy vegetables right in our backyard!

What things are making you smile lately?

Some Random Belly Babbles

One thing that has surprised me with this pregnancy has been how quickly the nesting has kicked in (if you're thinking, what?? click here!). I did have some nesting impulses with Anna, but they were really just towards the end and probably due more to restlessness than anything.

This time around? My house/husband/yard better watch out, because I seriously can't make it stop. I'm ITCHING to get a garden going. Everything needs to be reorganized and redecorated. I spend way too much time poring over decorating ideas for Anna's big girl room, tweaks to the nursery, play room ideas, and craft ideas. I have a list going of home repairs that need to be done RIGHT.THIS.SECOND, and that list is pretty much a mile long. I have a feeling this might be our most productive summer yet, thanks to Baby!!

Speaking of Anna's big girl room, it will be in what is now our guest room. I am very sad to lose our guest room - it's relatively rare nowadays that we have overnight guests, but I have really loved having a full, dedicated guest room that's pretty much always ready and available. Our house is "technically" a 5 bedroom house, but really, with the way we've got it set up, it's only a 3 bedroom, and it would take some major reorganization and renovations to get another permanent guest room up and running. And unfortunately we would sacrifice way too much day-to-day practicality. I think our best option is going to be to finally finish out the full bathroom that's on our main floor, and invest in some good air mattresses or maybe a nice futon. That way, if we do have overnight guests, we can temporarily convert the play room into a makeshift guest room. Anyone else have a similar situation? What did you do?

Our beautiful guest room, which will be missed.
The other decision that we will eventually have to make with Anna's big girl room is whether or not to keep her in her crib, and get another one for the nursery, or to take the plunge and move her into a bed. I have a feeling that this will be a very much last-minute decision. Right now I can't even fathom putting her into a bed, but I know a lot can change between now and August! Anna will be almost 2 when the baby comes - Moms of older kids, when did you make that transition? Any tips?

The other big change is that for the first time in a couple of years, I am seriously contemplating joining a gym. Anna HATES the stroller now, and it's almost impossible to take her on walks. Steve used to think I was crazy, but now even he has seen first hand how much she hates that stroller! And while we have a small workout room in the basement with an elliptical machine and a TV for workout DVDs, I have been thinking that it would be nice to be able to go to a real facility, especially one with a nursery for Anna. Luckily for us, our local YMCA is apparently fantastic, and they have both an indoor and an outdoor pool. AND even a prenatal water workout class! I was excited to hear that my neighbor friend is also thinking about joining - I would love to have a workout buddy! The pool would also enable us to go swimming throughout the whole summer - my doctor puts the big "no" stamp on lake-swimming during the last month of pregnancy, but chlorinated pools are apparently okay. And if you've ever been through a Georgia summer at 8-9 months pregnant, you know a cool pool is pretty much heaven on Earth!!

Anyway, those are some of the major changes going on right now in the Belly Babbles house. Lots of fun times and plans coming - it's going to be a great Spring and Summer!

Where a Kid Can Be a Kid

We took Banana Bean to Chuck E. Cheese for the very first time. We went for lunch to avoid the dinner time crowds and Anna had fun - so many lights and sounds and buttons!

Silly girl!

She kept stealing my pieces of pizza...I guess cut up pizza is for babies and she's just too much of a big girl!!

Picture Post!

This is going to be a long one because it's been a while since my last picture post, but there are some cute ones in here! Make sure to scroll all the way down to the bottom - the last one's my favorite!

She definitely learned that from Daddy!!!

She loves taunting Kingsley through the windows while she's eating.

Picnic with Mommy. I don't know why she loved that yogurt container so much, she didn't want to put it down!

Her smiles make me so happy!

Anna loves strawberries more than any other food in the world right now.

Tea party! I let her have a teeny bit of milk or water in her tea cups so we can practice with usually ends up being a massive mess, haha. Practice makes perfect, right??

She has rediscovered bubbles, and usually wrestles the bottle away from me to try to blow them herself. She's only gotten one so far but it's pretty fun watching her try!

Nicole came to visit!! And Anna loved her the entire time and played and then the second we tried to take a picture - water works. This picture was too funny not to be included, sorry Nicole!!

Some day we will get a good play group picture with happy smiling children!!!

Last one...are you ready?

August 2012, here we come!  :-)
