Yesterday was Halloween and it was the first holiday that Anna was really aware of what was going on. And oh boy was it fun!! My friend Sarah posted something on Facebook yesterday about how if her daughter was as excited about Christmas as she was about Halloween, that this was going to be a fun holiday season and I completely agree with her!
We have been mentioning Halloween and trick-or-treating fairly often over the last month. Anna has a couple of Halloween books and we've been reading those every night at bedtime, and we've also been practicing saying "trick or treat!". We got to have a practice day when Anna's music class had a costume day, and then it was time for the big day!
Anna kicked off Halloween day by getting her paws on our Halloween candy stash, and she carefully picked out all of the Butterfingers and Nestle Crunch bars to put in her pumpkin.
We also practiced trick-or-treating, and I am happy that Steve reminded me to get a video! Anna was having so much fun and she was not happy when we had to stop to eat dinner.
At 6:00 we packed up the crew and went down to the neighborhood trick-or-treat kickoff party. I always love seeing all the kids in their costumes and it's also a great chance to catch up with some of the neighbors that we don't get to see very often.
So sad this one isn't in focus but it was the best one we were able to get. This picture session was pretty much all, "Maddie, stop crying. Anna, get over here. Anna, leave your sister alone. Maddie, stop crying." but oh well. I am sure next year will be better :-).
Anna was already starting to rub her eyes and to lay her head down on my shoulder at the end of the kickoff party, so we decided to make it an early evening for her. We took her to our next door neighbor's house to trick or treat, and she did wonderfully! Anna said "trick or treat!", picked out her candy, and even said "thank you!". Bean had just enough time to greet one set of trick-or-treaters and to help give them candy, and then it was off to bed for both our little pumpkins. They didn't even stir when the doorbell kept ringing!
This morning Anna kept trying to pick out her Cinderella dress to wear, but luckily she hasn't been too interested in the candy - maybe yesterday's sugar levels gave her a tummyache!
We hope all of you had a wonderful Halloween too - trick or treat!!
