We were fortunate this past week to be able to spend some overdue (well, for me at least!!) time with our dear friends Derek and Jessica, and their handsome little boy Forrest. They live in Chattanooga and so we don't get to see each other TOO often, but we try to get together at least a couple of times a year.
We were able to finagle a long weekend together up at the lake house and good times were had by all. It was a relaxing, laid-back weekend...we didn't even go out on the water very much because of the unseasonably cool weather, but the kids were happily entertained by each other and the novelty of new toys to steal from each other. The adults traded kid-free time throughout the weekend, enjoyed a well-stocked bar, and feasted on shrimp boils and grilled goodies.
This little pool was a great option, as we could fill it up with some warm water!!
Bubbles were a popular mainstay of pool time.
Anna and Steve took a little putter around the cove on the "baby boats"
The water was pretty chilly - not the norm for middle of August!!
Jess and I stuck the babies in their strollers so we could take Anna on a little walk. She enjoys looking for bees and bunnies, and splashing in the puddles!
This little stinker won't touch her Sophie at home, but wouldn't stop gnawing on Forrest's!!
I had to laugh when I look over and see Maddie playing dress-up with Anna's hat and sunglasses. What a cutie!
Maddie scoping out what other toys Forrest had hidden in his tote bag.
Jessica and I chose to use our baby-free time to take ourselves out to lunch and to go shopping. The babies got some new stacker toys and the mommies enjoyed their morning out! Main Street in Blue Ridge was such a fun block to explore and I was glad we got to check it out. The guys went golfing, in case you were curious, but I am not sure they took any pictures.
Love those roly-poly thighs!
I stumbled across Anna's present while we were browsing the Murphy N.C. flea market. Anna had been intrigued with Poppy's guitar collection scattered around the lake house, and she has always loved Steve's guitar music. Well, when I saw this little guitar, I just had to bring it home for her. She was thrilled with her present and carried it around with her for the rest of the weekend. It even accompanied her for a nap! Anna kept announcing "Daddy guitar, Poppy guitar, Anna guitar!!"
Nothing like a little breakfast-time serenade. I believe this was "Twinkle Twinkle Little Star".
It was a bittersweet weekend for Steve and me. I have kept this news quiet this summer, as the plans weren't ever definite, but it looks like the lake house will pass into the hands of a new owner next month. We have such an unbelievable amount of good memories at this lake house and we are so sad to say goodbye to this beautiful place - Steve and I were both emotional watching the kids play and thinking about leaving for the last time. We were thankful that we were able to spend our last weekend here in the company of good friends and filled with such delighted laughter and enthusiasm. It truly is the end of an era but we are hopeful that it will open up some exciting new adventures for the Forbes clan.
All in all the weekend was a success, and we are already planning the next get-together - it's about time we went back to Tennessee for a visit!
