Atlanta was surprised this week with an icy, wintry blast that shut down the city. Poor Steve got caught down at the office and what is normally a 30 minute commute turned into a 5 hour ordeal. He finally managed to pull his car into a nearby grocery store parking lot and hiked home just before dark. After seeing what plenty of other people and neighbors went through, I am just happy he made it home safe and sound that night! Thousands of Atlantans got stuck on the roads and were forced to spend the night at nearby businesses and churches...seriously such a rough night but I was so proud of how helpful and connected our Atlanta community proved to be. I have seen so many articles the last few days highlighting all of the good works and deeds that occurred during our ice storm and it made me proud to call this city home. If any of you readers were among the ones stuck (I know there are at least a couple of you), please know that we had you in our thoughts for a safe return home.
My girls were blissfully unaware of hellish commutes and they were both thrilled to see snow on the ground, especially given their fascination with Frozen. Here are some cute pictures!
Watching the snow fall
Maddie's first real snow!
During our first little venture outside, both kids promptly pulled off hats and gloves and Anna tried to take off her coat. We lasted approximately four minutes.
Anna tried to prolong the snow time by stealing my gloves.
I managed to hold off my snow bunnies the next morning until tolerable temperatures by putting on our Frozen youtube playlist.
We met up with some of our neighbors, who introduced my girls to the wonderful world of sledding. I have a ton of videos too but I will need to figure out where they went on my computer.
On our way to an impromptu potluck dinner
Our neighbors loaned us their sled and Steve, Anna and Maddie had a blast riding down the hill in our front yard. The whole cul-de-sac was iced over so they would zoom over the curb and slide halfway across the cul-de-sac before Steve could stop them.
Maddie is such a ham!
Maddie got such a kick out of sledding - she and Steve went several more times after Anna lost interest and I had to pull them away for naptime!
The girls and I came inside to warm up with some yummy homemade hot chocolate and sugar cookies while Steve jogged up to the grocery store to get his car. And of course we made sure to save him some!
We had such a fun time playing in the snow - it seems so funny that we're now planning a picnic at the park for our 60 degree weekend!
